Without the generous support of our friends and school families, there’s no way Clapham would be able to accomplish our mission to equip young men and women to pursue wisdom, grow in virtue, and stand firm in biblical truth in the way we do: through excellent Christian classical education informed by the pedagogy of Charlotte Mason. These distinctions entail particular values and emphases. Among them? A devotion to goodness, truth, and beauty.
This month, we are excited to share the details of the aim of our annual spring benefit: improvements to our southwest exterior as well as a major landscaping renovation, which will not only support the structural integrity and sustainability of our facility, but also further our mission to cultivate a love for goodness and beauty as it will allow our students and community to spend more intentional time outdoors in classroom and recreational contexts.
The 1874 farmhouse is arguably the distinctive feature of our facility. Among the renovations we plan to achieve beginning this spring are a landscaping design featuring native plants that complement the historic aspect of our property, plant selections that are particularly interesting during the school year (rather than solely the summer, when most students are not near the building), improved stormwater management, and a story walk and reading garden outside our library windows.
As we pursue these significant design plans for the spring, we trust that this investment in our property will reflect our commitment to celebrating the beauty of God’s creation for everyone who passes by and will demonstrate responsible stewardship of our facility. The landscaping renovation will involve water management that will continue to redirect storm runoff away from our building, as well as mitigating ice and mud around our property in wet weather.
