School-Family Partnership Series: Parent Council 101, Part Two

Our Parent Council interview continues!

Rejoicing in God’s Good Gifts

How does Parent Council fit within Clapham’s value of school-parent partnership?

The Parent Council team comes alongside the teachers and administrators at Clapham to facilitate a strong connection between the school and parents. One of the many joys of being a part of the PC is getting to know the faculty well and intentionally supporting the needs of our amazing community.

In 1 Peter 4, Peter exhorts believers, “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ.” The Holy Spirit has endowed each believer with God-given gifts and as stewards of those gifts we can use them to serve others and ultimately bring glory to Him.

“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace…”

1 Peter 4:10

A beautiful element in the partnership of Clapham and PC is that each person’s gifts and talents are welcomed and utilized through the wide variety of opportunities to serve throughout the school year. We need people who prefer to work behind the scenes, others who enjoy leading social events like walk-to-school, or even those who are willing to step in as MC for the new Father-Daughter event we launched this year… and the list goes on!

When God’s people work together in unity and purpose it is truly a remarkable experience. There are countless ways to integrate into PC and by doing so integrate more deeply into the Clapham School community.  (Liz Farber)

An Exhortation: Go Out and Use Your Gifts!

If a parent wanted to get involved in Parent Council, where should they start?

You may be asking yourself, “how do I get involved?” We realize that there are many stages and seasons of life: you may still have infants and toddlers at home, you may have one left in school and the rest have flown the nest, or you may be working full-time on top of family life. Just as varied as these seasons, so too are the ways to be involved in supporting our teachers, administration, students and community.

“…but through love serve one another.”

Galatians 5:13

If you are available to join us one time or regularly for the Parent Council meetings, please do. You can find these dates and times on the Clapham Calendar. If you can’t join us, you can still sign up to receive the minutes from the meetings. Here you will see what PC is working on and where we need support. Be sure to read the Memorandum when you receive it. Parent Council notes upcoming events and volunteer opportunities. Or if you would like to serve and just don’t know where to start, please talk to Liz Farber, Kylie Hinkle, Kyra Fitzgerald or Jessica Sanders. We would love to help you find your place of service at Clapham. You can also reach out to the general Parent Council email: [email protected].  (Jessica Sanders)
